What is convert PDF to Word?

The PDF to Word tool creates DOCX or ODT files from a PDF file up to 256 MB. Then, you can edit the text, copy content, or reuse part of the document in a compatible editor. Conversion works better with PDF files that have real text layers and a relatively simple layout.

PDF has a fixed layout, while Word organizes documents according to an editable structure. Therefore, paragraphs, tables, columns, footnotes, and fonts may need adjustment after conversion. The tool does not have an OCR option. If the PDF is a scanned copy containing only images, the output file may not have editable text. Run OCR on the PDF before converting to DOCX or ODT.

Does the tool export DOCX or DOC?

You can choose DOCX or ODT, but there is no old DOC format. DOCX works with Microsoft Word and many modern editors, while ODT belongs to the OpenDocument ecosystem. If the workflow requires DOC, download the DOCX file and then save it using office software that supports that format.

Can a scanned PDF be converted into editable text?

Not directly. Scanned PDFs usually contain images of pages instead of a text layer, and PDF to Word tools don't have an OCR option. First, use a PDF OCR tool with the correct language to create a searchable text layer. Then, convert the OCRed file to DOCX or ODT and check for recognition errors.

Why does the Word layout differ from the original PDF?

PDF stores content in fixed positions, while Word arranges content into paragraphs, tables, columns, and editable page flows. Tools have to infer this structure from the PDF, so columns, text boxes, footnotes, or substitute fonts may be shifted. The output file needs to be edited and reviewed before release.
